Narrative:

Approaching the OM I noticed another aircraft at about my 2 O'clock position, 2 mi range, 2000' higher than we were, heading directly at us and descending. The other aircraft then turned and placed itself over our aircraft and slightly ahead of us, about 100' higher than we were and it continued its descent. We deviated down for the G/south and off the localizer to the right. The other aircraft was then broken off of the approach 90 degrees to the right and we continued the approach and landed. After landing I talked to the approach control supervisor who apologized for the incident and told me that there was controller training in progress and that the individual handling both of our aircraft would be disciplined. What had happened was that the other aircraft, an medium large transport, had been cleared for a visibility approach to runway 14R to follow traffic on final. The problem was that the controller turned the medium large transport onto a collision course with us. The medium large transport did stop the descent at 3000' while we were deviation below the G/south at about 1800' in anticipation of a rapid evasive maneuver if it became necessary. At no time during this entire incident was the other aircraft out of our sight.

Title: ACFT ON VISUAL APCH FOR RWY 14R OVERFLEW THE FINAL APCH AND CONFLICTED WITH ANOTHER ACFT FOR RWY 14L.

Narrative: APCHING THE OM I NOTICED ANOTHER ACFT AT ABOUT MY 2 O'CLOCK POS, 2 MI RANGE, 2000' HIGHER THAN WE WERE, HDG DIRECTLY AT US AND DSNDING. THE OTHER ACFT THEN TURNED AND PLACED ITSELF OVER OUR ACFT AND SLIGHTLY AHEAD OF US, ABOUT 100' HIGHER THAN WE WERE AND IT CONTINUED ITS DSCNT. WE DEVIATED DOWN FOR THE G/S AND OFF THE LOC TO THE RIGHT. THE OTHER ACFT WAS THEN BROKEN OFF OF THE APCH 90 DEGS TO THE RIGHT AND WE CONTINUED THE APCH AND LANDED. AFTER LNDG I TALKED TO THE APCH CTL SUPVR WHO APOLOGIZED FOR THE INCIDENT AND TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS CTLR TRNING IN PROGRESS AND THAT THE INDIVIDUAL HANDLING BOTH OF OUR ACFT WOULD BE DISCIPLINED. WHAT HAD HAPPENED WAS THAT THE OTHER ACFT, AN MLG, HAD BEEN CLRED FOR A VIS APCH TO RWY 14R TO FOLLOW TFC ON FINAL. THE PROB WAS THAT THE CTLR TURNED THE MLG ONTO A COLLISION COURSE WITH US. THE MLG DID STOP THE DSCNT AT 3000' WHILE WE WERE DEVIATION BELOW THE G/S AT ABOUT 1800' IN ANTICIPATION OF A RAPID EVASIVE MANEUVER IF IT BECAME NECESSARY. AT NO TIME DURING THIS ENTIRE INCIDENT WAS THE OTHER ACFT OUT OF OUR SIGHT.
