Narrative:

After completing the 'before taxi' checklist we began our taxi when the 'rud press' caution light illuminated. I asked to pull into a run up pad. We went through the emergency checklist. I then wrote up the discrepancy and called dispatch. I was then put on the phone with maintenance they told me we could MEL the situation; but I told them I would feel more comfortable if we returned to the gate. I returned to the gate because I wanted our mechanics at our base to check the problem prior to flight. Plus I would feel more comfortable knowing there wasn't some sort of hydraulic leak by performing my own walk around. After approximately a 3 hour delay the problem was fixed and the flight left. I flew the airplane for four flights after this incident and the rud press caution light never re-appeared.
