Narrative:

Tower controller cleared us to land 1C at iad and advised us to plan our runway exit at Y2 since all other high speed taxiways were closed. This fact was not NOTAM'ed or advertised on ATIS a. After landing we exited Y2 and were advised to transition to taxiway Z. On taxiway Y2 I did not see the straight ahead transition on Y2 to Z (probably because I was in the small right pad area where Y2 high speed meets Y and my taxi beam did not show the offset Y2 to my left); but saw the slight turn right on Y and thought our clearance was to 'transition' to Z; so I taxied on Y between Y2 and Y3 and then transitioned to Z. The ground controller then informed us we were on a closed portion of y-not notamed; not ATIS advertised and not marked in any way (barricades or paint). Need some kind of visual clue of taxiway closures.
