Narrative:

During an intermediate stop I conducted a normal preflight inspection of the aircraft. A flashlight was used during the preflight because of darkness and no irregularities were noted. After completion of the preflight I was greeted by an FAA examiner who pointed out FOD damage to the #2 engine which became obvious to me upon re-examination. The aircraft was downed and appropriate maintenance actions performed.
