Narrative:

Cleared to climb to 15000' on assigned heading of 240 degree by ZDC frequency 121.05. ZDC advised of known IFR traffic 3 to 5 mi eastbound 16000' descending to 15000'. After a short pause, controller said traffic 16000' for 16000'. At this time, we had visual contact. I leveled off at 14700' and descended to 14500' while making rapid turn to 270 degree. At this time another controller came on the air saying traffic alert or something similar. Medium large transport Y passed 1000' to 2000' off our left, opposite direction at what appeared to be 15000'.
