Took off from teb on the ruudy 2 departure and contacted new york. The first officer checked on the departure frequency of 126.7 and climbing out of 1;000 ft ATC said to climb to 8;000 ft and resume normal airspeed. The first officer responded; 'climb 8;000 ft and normal airspeed.' while climbing out of 4;000 ft; the controller asked us what altitude we were cleared to. The first officer responded 'you just cleared us to 8;000 ft and normal airspeed.' ATC said 'that was for another aircraft.' after a short pause ATC cleared us to maintain 7;000 ft. I was the captain of the flight and the flying pilot.
