Narrative:
Cleared to 'line up and wait behind' previous aircraft on runway 25 at intersection ba; then previous aircraft takeoff clearance was canceled as we taxied into position from the intersection behind the aircraft taking off. Then tower questioned why we were on the runway behind the aircraft. We responded that that was our clearance to line up and wait behind. Tower then cleared other aircraft for take off and we encountered some jet blast as he rolled downfield. Then after a few minutes we were cleared for take off without any further incident. Filing the report because the controller's instruction to line up and wait 'behind' did cause some confusion and then we were questioned by the tower.
