Narrative:

After clearance from ground; we began the pushback out of the gate. About ten yards into the pushback; we became aware of a conflict with an aircraft taxiing into a nearby gate. The aircraft was already on or near the j-line with a marshaller. We heard the crew in the aircraft urgently calling on the radio telling us to stop the push. The pushback driver stopped the push either as he saw the conflict and/or he heard our call to stop the push via the headset. After both aircraft stopped and the danger of a collision was over; our pushback crew maneuvered our aircraft away from the other aircraft and completed the push. Position a wing walker during pushback from these gates on the side of the aircraft where the conflict would occur. ATC and ground control should restrict pushback from these gates when an aircraft is inbound to the other gate or advise the aircraft of a possible conflict. Include a warning on the bwi company tailored page about the danger of collision during simultaneous operations from these gates.
