Narrative:

We were taxiing (I was the number 3 and sitting in my jumpseat) when the call lights in the rear of the aircraft rang a few times. I went over to see what the problem was when I saw smoke coming out of the vent. I also smelled an odor which indicated to me that it was of an electrical nature. The passengers luckily were out of the seats and I had a clear row to work with. I grabbed the halon from the right hand aft doghouse and sprayed into the smoke area and it quickly dissipated. I kept spraying just in case the smoke or fire would return. It didn't. I stayed in the area until we got back to the gate and maintenance came on board to check it out. Passengers were very cooperative and followed instructions to the letter.
