Narrative:

After moving a B747-400 from maintenance pad to the terminal; I was going to open door #1L and noticed the yellow 'disarm' handle was not exposed fully in the upper window. I opened the 'disarming' access door and pushed up on the handle; it would not move. I slightly moved the door 'open' handle while pushing up on the 'disarming' handle; it did not move. Thinking the door was disarmed; I applied more pressure on the door 'open' handle. After a 'pop' sound the [door 'open'] handle came up unexpectedly and the door opened with [door assist bottle] air. The slide/raft came off the door but did not deploy. Only one side of the girt bar was attached to the door sill. Aircraft was damaged.
