Narrative:

While leveled at cruising altitude; the right hand engine started to produce a popping sound in addition to abnormal engine gauge indications. A descent was immediately initiated and the problem remained. After running all checklists; an in-flight engine shutdown was performed. With safety as a first priority; the flight was diverted for landing. In choosing the alternate airport; careful consideration was given to weather; runway length; crash fire rescue equipment services; etc. The flight successfully landed with no further problems.
