Narrative:

During the cruise portion of flight my first officer and I heard a pop; followed by rumbling noises. The flight attendant's called the flight deck to report the noise as well. We then got a hydraulic 2 lo press cass message with corresponding/associated spoiler messages. Hydraulic quantity was at that time 45 percent and rapidly falling. By the time the QRH was referenced the hydraulic quantity in system 2 had dropped to 5 percent. We followed the QRH procedures; declared an emergency; notified dispatch; and landed at the nearest suitable airport. I chose ZZZ due to its close proximity and long runways.
