Narrative:

I was flying this takeoff out of pie runway 35R. Departure cleared us to 12000'. After clearing a scattered deck at 5000' I saw an air carrier Y flight, an large transport, at our 3 O'clock position within one mi and slightly higher. He was on climb out from tpa. I notified the captain, he told departure we had a visibility on air carrier Y traffic and were leveling to allow large transport to climb ahead of us. We were never informed of this traffic by ATC. The controller may have been unaware of the rapid climb rate of the medium large transport vs large transport.
