Narrative:

Flight in 4/88 was taxiing for departure on runway 4 for a flight to roa. Conditions were about 2000' overcast. The ground controller gave us 'taxi into position and hold' as we approached the turn on the taxiway. He said he had a jet on the approach and would clear us for takeoff when he had him visual. As we took the runway, my first officer switched to tower frequency and we waited in position for takeoff clearance. My first officer dialed in roa tower by mistake and I didn't notice the incorrect frequency until the big jet passed over our heads on his go around. I then called the tower on the correct frequency and a very unhappy controller gave us 'what for!' and cleared us for takeoff. This would not have happened if clearance onto the active had been referred to tower, and if the wrong frequency had he been noticed by myself.

Title: ACR MDT CLEARED INTO POSITION AND HOLD, THEN CHANGED TO WRONG FREQ AND DID NOT GET TKOF CLRNC CAUSING MLG TO GO AROUND.

Narrative: FLT IN 4/88 WAS TAXIING FOR DEP ON RWY 4 FOR A FLT TO ROA. CONDITIONS WERE ABOUT 2000' OVCST. THE GND CTLR GAVE US 'TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD' AS WE APCHED THE TURN ON THE TXWY. HE SAID HE HAD A JET ON THE APCH AND WOULD CLR US FOR TKOF WHEN HE HAD HIM VISUAL. AS WE TOOK THE RWY, MY F/O SWITCHED TO TWR FREQ AND WE WAITED IN POS FOR TKOF CLRNC. MY F/O DIALED IN ROA TWR BY MISTAKE AND I DIDN'T NOTICE THE INCORRECT FREQ UNTIL THE BIG JET PASSED OVER OUR HEADS ON HIS GO AROUND. I THEN CALLED THE TWR ON THE CORRECT FREQ AND A VERY UNHAPPY CTLR GAVE US 'WHAT FOR!' AND CLRED US FOR TKOF. THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED IF CLRNC ONTO THE ACTIVE HAD BEEN REFERRED TO TWR, AND IF THE WRONG FREQ HAD HE BEEN NOTICED BY MYSELF.
