Narrative:
During cruise flight at FL400; we heard a loud pop. The captain and I realized the right side windshield was shattered. Emergency descent procedure was initiated and we declared an emergency with ATC. I then performed the abnormal QRH for windshield failure. Flight attendants and passengers were notified. Pressurization was normal; however we decided to divert as a precaution. Dispatch and maintenance were notified via commercial radio. Landing was uneventful.
