Narrative:

While shooting touch and goes on runway 21, we were in the midst of lifting off when an airliner on runway 17, a crossing runway, was cleared for takeoff. When a conflict became apparent, the airliner was told to abort. The conflict caused the airliner to abort. No other problem was encountered. In conversation with the tower by phone it was indicated that we were cleared to land and hold short of runway 17. I have no recollection of this command and no recollection of acknowledgement. At this time a tower tape has not been made available. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: reporter said that the tape showed that they had indeed been cleared to land and hold short of runway 17. He said that the tower operator was a trnee and that he was almost all the way through the intersection before the large transport taking off on the intersecting runway was told to abort his takeoff. He thinks the tower overreacted. The large transport then had to take a delay to cool his brakes even though the reporter said the large transport was a mile down the runway when the small transport flew through the intersection. The large transport crew had to explain the delay to their company, the tower had to explain the abort and thus the FAA is investigating the incident. Reporter said that his student acknowledged the clearance to hold short but that it did not register with him.

Title: SMA MADE TOUCH AND GO WITHOUT CLRNC FORCING LGT TO ABORT TKOF ON INTERSECTING RWY.

Narrative: WHILE SHOOTING TOUCH AND GOES ON RWY 21, WE WERE IN THE MIDST OF LIFTING OFF WHEN AN AIRLINER ON RWY 17, A XING RWY, WAS CLRED FOR TKOF. WHEN A CONFLICT BECAME APPARENT, THE AIRLINER WAS TOLD TO ABORT. THE CONFLICT CAUSED THE AIRLINER TO ABORT. NO OTHER PROB WAS ENCOUNTERED. IN CONVERSATION WITH THE TWR BY PHONE IT WAS INDICATED THAT WE WERE CLRED TO LAND AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 17. I HAVE NO RECOLLECTION OF THIS COMMAND AND NO RECOLLECTION OF ACKNOWLEDGEMENT. AT THIS TIME A TWR TAPE HAS NOT BEEN MADE AVAILABLE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: RPTR SAID THAT THE TAPE SHOWED THAT THEY HAD INDEED BEEN CLRED TO LAND AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 17. HE SAID THAT THE TWR OPERATOR WAS A TRNEE AND THAT HE WAS ALMOST ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE INTXN BEFORE THE LGT TAKING OFF ON THE INTERSECTING RWY WAS TOLD TO ABORT HIS TKOF. HE THINKS THE TWR OVERREACTED. THE LGT THEN HAD TO TAKE A DELAY TO COOL HIS BRAKES EVEN THOUGH THE RPTR SAID THE LGT WAS A MILE DOWN THE RWY WHEN THE SMT FLEW THROUGH THE INTXN. THE LGT CREW HAD TO EXPLAIN THE DELAY TO THEIR COMPANY, THE TWR HAD TO EXPLAIN THE ABORT AND THUS THE FAA IS INVESTIGATING THE INCIDENT. RPTR SAID THAT HIS STUDENT ACKNOWLEDGED THE CLRNC TO HOLD SHORT BUT THAT IT DID NOT REGISTER WITH HIM.
