Narrative:

Landed at ord on 14L, copilot flying. Were told as we touched down to clear at 'high speed and hold short of 9L.' it was a very windy night and the captain and I were quite busy landing the aircraft, watching for turn off, and switching control from first officer to captain for taxi. He held short of 9L and I switched to ground control, checked in and was told to continue to gate. Ground thought we had been cleared to cross 9L by tower which was not the case. We did cross 9L on our own after checking visually very carefully. No conflict occurred. The instructions to 'hold short of 9L and stay with me' by tower came at a very bad time and I missed it due to involvement in landing.
