Narrative:

Forward flight attendant had made the final approach announcement; compliance checks were done flight attendants were in jumpseats. I was personally aware there was an issue when instead of lowering landing gear; we started circling south of the ZZZ airport. Approximately 15 minutes passed this way when the captain made an announcement to the cabin that there was a slight problem with the 'leading edge flaps(?)' and that meant we would be landing at a faster speed than usual but that there shouldn't be any real problems. He also indicated there would be fire engines meeting us on the ground; but there was nothing to be alarmed about. I called the forward flight attendant on the interphone and she indicated that previously she'd gotten a call from the flight deck where they'd informed her of an emergency landing. Passengers in main cabin seemed calm but concerned. Forward flight attendant made an announcement to cabin for passengers to ensure their seatbelts were low and tight. Landing was very smooth and uneventful. I was not approached by nor did I overhear any passenger concern.
