Narrative:
After being cleared for takeoff and crossing the hold short line on runway 17R; the first officer performed the before takeoff checklist. I/we noticed that the flight release was in a position to interfere with the gust lock full forward position and advised ATC that we would be aborting the takeoff. We then cleared the runway; stowed the flight release; and performed the after landing checklist; taxi checklist; and got in line for takeoff after notifying the passengers and flight attendant that we needed to clear the runway and re-enter the departure line for takeoff.
