Narrative:

Performed walkaround on aircraft. Missed finding broken clamp bracket; dent in conduit and was informed next day. The inspection was performed at night the last of the shift. It was suggested that the check should be left for the oncoming shift by amts; but denied. I am new to this shift and was used to being in bed by this time; so I was tired. Even so; in order to see the damage when I looked the next day. I had to put my head well into the wheel truck and move the bracket to find the damage. A company alert was sent about damage on the B757 main wheel trucks. But it was about the rear section and mostly on the left gear. I think a fix for this would be to do a set up or east/a on the area in question. Damage may have been from a blown tire. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated this particular maintenance alert mostly involved the left main gear wheel truck aft section. This alert was one of many his company issues on a daily basis. While following up on his carrier's main gear alert information; an FAA field inspector had also checked the right main gear and found a broken bracket and damage to the wire harness; mostly at the forward end of the gear truck. This was not in the area noted in the maintenance alert; but he had earlier performed a quick walkaround check and didn't notice the damage.

Title: A MECHANIC IS INFORMED HE MISSED FINDING A BROKEN CLAMP BRACKET AND A DENT IN THE WIRE HARNESS CONDUIT ON A B757-200 RIGHT MAIN GEAR TRUCK; FORWARD END.

Narrative: PERFORMED WALKAROUND ON ACFT. MISSED FINDING BROKEN CLAMP BRACKET; DENT IN CONDUIT AND WAS INFORMED NEXT DAY. THE INSPECTION WAS PERFORMED AT NIGHT THE LAST OF THE SHIFT. IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT THE CHK SHOULD BE LEFT FOR THE ONCOMING SHIFT BY AMTS; BUT DENIED. I AM NEW TO THIS SHIFT AND WAS USED TO BEING IN BED BY THIS TIME; SO I WAS TIRED. EVEN SO; IN ORDER TO SEE THE DAMAGE WHEN I LOOKED THE NEXT DAY. I HAD TO PUT MY HEAD WELL INTO THE WHEEL TRUCK AND MOVE THE BRACKET TO FIND THE DAMAGE. A COMPANY ALERT WAS SENT ABOUT DAMAGE ON THE B757 MAIN WHEEL TRUCKS. BUT IT WAS ABOUT THE REAR SECTION AND MOSTLY ON THE L GEAR. I THINK A FIX FOR THIS WOULD BE TO DO A SET UP OR E/A ON THE AREA IN QUESTION. DAMAGE MAY HAVE BEEN FROM A BLOWN TIRE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: REPORTER STATED THIS PARTICULAR MAINT ALERT MOSTLY INVOLVED THE LEFT MAIN GEAR WHEEL TRUCK AFT SECTION. THIS ALERT WAS ONE OF MANY HIS COMPANY ISSUES ON A DAILY BASIS. WHILE FOLLOWING UP ON HIS CARRIER'S MAIN GEAR ALERT INFO; AN FAA FIELD INSPECTOR HAD ALSO CHECKED THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR AND FOUND A BROKEN BRACKET AND DAMAGE TO THE WIRE HARNESS; MOSTLY AT THE FORWARD END OF THE GEAR TRUCK.
