Narrative:

Police were contacted to report to our gate in ZZZ following an incident where contact was made between 2 aircraft during taxi for takeoff. Their response was quick yet overwhelming. As the last passenger disembarked from our damaged aircraft; they were the first to come on board to begin ask questions. Although not in the wrong; their timing was a little off. I (captain) requested to leave the flight deck to inspect the damage for myself prior to entering the condition into the company manual. I was still questioned for a 'statement' as I left the aircraft and returned to the flight deck. I tried to convey to the officers that I had to make some phone calls and take care of some paperwork as well as configure the aircraft for the gate on ground power and finish a shutdown checklist. I politely asked them to give me a few mins to complete my required duties and I would be free to answer their questions. I then was on my phone to the copilot sitting in row 4 of our aircraft when a sergeant with local police (not just a min later) came on board with 3 additional offices asking to talk to the PF. I told them I was on the phone with my supervisor if he would give me a min. He responded by telling me 'I need to see your license and aircraft registration now and your cooperation. You can call anybody you want when we're done; but I know you want to cooperate because I don't want to have to take you downtown to get it.' I then ended my call to the copilot to give a statement to one of the other officers. I appreciate and respect the officers and the job they do; but there needs to be an understanding of a crew member's procedures and protocols in securing passenger; crew; aircraft; and notification of our proper auths.
