Narrative:

Passing through FL240 lax approach assigned us the RIIVR1 arrival to lax with no runway assigned. We hand loaded each point for the arrival to runway 25L because it is not in our database. Crossing about 16000 ft they assigned us the arrival to runway 24R. Of course the runway 24R ILS approach is loadable; but all the points outside of that on the RIIVR1 arrival are not. At that point we were looking for traffic; completing a checklist; and actually having to hand load each point on the arrival. The worst time to be doing all this; definitely work overload. If we had any idea that this arrival would have been a possibility we would have briefed it well ahead of time and had both arrs and runways loaded in the box. It was a surprise to the whole crew.
