Narrative:

I was accomplishing a dual FMC software update and cds software update. The FMC is not a CAT item but the cds is. On both pieces of paperwork; step 31 says return aircraft to service. On the cds paperwork it also says 'include recertification of hgs to CAT III status.' on the cds paperwork I missed this part of the signoff. I am used to seeing return aircraft to service as the final action to be taken on the aircraft. I should have seen this portion of the block but believe it would be helpful to separate these 2 actions into 2 blocks.

Title: A B-737 ACFT MECHANIC REPORTS ON HOW HE MISSED A MAINT SIGN-OFF AFTER HE COMPLETED THE UPDATING OF DUAL FMC SOFTWARE AND SOFTWARE FOR THE CDS.

Narrative: I WAS ACCOMPLISHING A DUAL FMC SOFTWARE UPDATE AND CDS SOFTWARE UPDATE. THE FMC IS NOT A CAT ITEM BUT THE CDS IS. ON BOTH PIECES OF PAPERWORK; STEP 31 SAYS RETURN ACFT TO SVC. ON THE CDS PAPERWORK IT ALSO SAYS 'INCLUDE RECERTIFICATION OF HGS TO CAT III STATUS.' ON THE CDS PAPERWORK I MISSED THIS PART OF THE SIGNOFF. I AM USED TO SEEING RETURN ACFT TO SVC AS THE FINAL ACTION TO BE TAKEN ON THE ACFT. I SHOULD HAVE SEEN THIS PORTION OF THE BLOCK BUT BELIEVE IT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO SEPARATE THESE 2 ACTIONS INTO 2 BLOCKS.
