Narrative:

We were ready for gate departure at mia, with before starting engines checklist completed. Agent was closing the door when a mechanic showed up to re-accomplish a placarded item involving a pack pressure gauge. As part of the placarding procedure, the mechanic advanced the left throttle and proceed to check a couple of associated components. After completing the procedure, the throttle was not returned to idle prior to start. Following start, power exceeded normal taxi limits and caused minor damage behind aircraft. In retrospect, we should have run the checklist over to catch the throttle.
