Narrative:

TEB5 departure briefed prior to departure. Pilot flying misread teb DME and was looking at FMS DME to first fix. Climb was made early from 1500 ft to 2000 ft. No conflicts known. Contributing factors may have been recent avionics upgrade and new location/display of data. New pre-departure briefings include where data will be displayed and how it will be navigated.
