Narrative:

In cruise at FL360; received EICAS message 'right oil filter.' no vibration noted. No abnormal engine readings for right engine. Ran the appropriate checklist but message remained illuminated. Per the checklist; the right engine was shut down; an emergency was declared; maintenance control and dispatch were notified; the purser and passenger were informed and we diverted to ZZZ without incident. At the gate we briefed the contract mechanics; and also called maintenance control; dispatch and the duty manager. Shortly afterwards; we were deadheaded to ZZZ1 to continue the IOE.
