Narrative:
On sep/fri/06; I replaced the tape reproducer on aircraft X. I entered the work and part number; serial number in log to clear the discrepancy. No 'forced entry' required. Please note a xchk of part numbers during replacement (manufacturer part number) appeared the same and no problems noted. It was brought to my attention that a problem was found with that replacement. The wrong part number installed. Requested the wrong part number; maintenance control; and planner sent us the wrong part number. Manufacturer part numbers I check during replacement but missed the suffix. I remember being very busy that night due to our workload and suspect that to be a contributing factor. As well as no 'forced entry' required on log entry.
