Narrative:

On approach to runway 25R at lax; captain was PF. We were given 'descend via civet 4 arrival.' we had briefed civet runway 25R and put the civet runway 24R arrival into the route 2 page. I thought we were cleared to descend via the civet runway 25R from just outside gramm. At 11000 ft we were handed off and cleared for the approach to runway 24R. This forced me heads down to reprogram the box; in some of the most congested airspace in the country. Los angeles approach needs to get the arrival to the air crews above FL200 to avoid this situation.
