Narrative:

During an 'a' check I was doing the external portion of the inspection for the check. While I was inspecting the wheel well I placed a tire pressure gauge I was carrying in the wheel well. I forgot it sitting there and continued the walkaround. I had some nose gear tires to change and I went to the shop to get the tires. Returning to the aircraft; I was looking for the gauge I had. I thought I had carried the gauge into the shop when I was inside to get the tires. I returned to the shop and was looking for the gauge. I did not see it sitting around; I checked the tool board; 1 spot was open so I knew it was still out. I returned to the aircraft and saw that the mechanic helping me with the nose tires had the gauge. I assumed that was the gauge and I continued working. When the job ended I returned to the shop and looked on the tool board where the tire gauges are shadowed out on hooks. All tire gauges were present on the board. I assumed the mechanic helping me returned the gauge to the board.
