Narrative:
We departed san for sna via the peble 3 departure sli then direct. Initial cruise altitude was 10000 ft MSL. Approximately 40 mi south of sli we were given a descent to 6000 ft MSL and vectors off the peble 3 to the west. We then switched controllers and he advised us to slow to 200 KTS for flight below the class B. We do not know if we were under class B at this point or if it was merely a friendly advisory. We promptly slowed to 200 KTS. In retrospect we should have paid more attention to the la area chart. While I believe some of the class B boundaries are hard to define we would have had a better picture when we were getting close. Supplemental information from acn 710463: I always thought when on an IFR flight plan being vectored in and around class B airspace you didn't have to comply with the 200 KTS. I was wrong.
