Narrative:

We were departing on a left crosswind leg. We heard an airplane self-announce on the CTAF a left downwind departure. The airplane turned an early left crosswind; passing at our altitude at less than 500 ft to our right; then banked hard left across our flight path at our altitude; at less than 500 ft distance. They then began a climb on the downwind. We were on an instructional flight; and had been in the traffic pattern for several lndgs. CTAF calls were being made; and our navigation and position anti-collision light were on.
