Narrative:

First officer flying. He got way behind the cedar creek descent profile coming into dallas. He was clueless about how far above the descent path he was in order to meet the tacke restr. I had him go to flight level change and maximum speed to make the tacke restr. Around 13000 ft; he starts slowing the speed which slows the descent rate. After a few seconds I can see that he's not going to make the tacke 11000 ft crossing restr so I reached up and overrode his use of the AFDS panel and selected vertical speed with a 2500 FPM rate of descent. This still didn't get the job done as we crossed tacke at 11400 ft.
