Narrative:

Due to fault; flight control module was inoperative and placarded. Log was updated with a wrong (unmodified) part number. Unfortunately; maintenance had that part in stock and as a matter of fact that was the only part (modified/unmodified) we had in our stock room for this particular system. I replaced the part and later found out it was unmodified part.

Title: A B737-500 HAD A DEFERRED ITEM ON THE HYD SYS CTL MODULE WITH AN INCORRECT PART NUMBER LISTED IN THE LOG. THIS INCORRECT PART NUMBER WAS ORDERED AND INSTALLED.

Narrative: DUE TO FAULT; FLT CTL MODULE WAS INOP AND PLACARDED. LOG WAS UPDATED WITH A WRONG (UNMODIFIED) PART NUMBER. UNFORTUNATELY; MAINT HAD THAT PART IN STOCK AND AS A MATTER OF FACT THAT WAS THE ONLY PART (MODIFIED/UNMODIFIED) WE HAD IN OUR STOCK ROOM FOR THIS PARTICULAR SYS. I REPLACED THE PART AND LATER FOUND OUT IT WAS UNMODIFIED PART.
