Narrative:

On 04/fri/05 I flew the leg from elz to teb. When established on final for runway 24 at teb the altitude select was scrolled from 1500 ft to 2000 ft per company practice to silence altitude deviation chime. The following leg from teb to psm was flown by another pilot and I moved from PF in left seat to PNF in the right seat. It was my job to prepare the airplane for departure. While waiting for our clearance I glanced at the teb 5 departure and noticed in bold print 2000 ft. Our clearance came back while I was looking at this SID. I copied the clearance and failed to go back and study the SID as I had intended to. While taxiing to runway 24 I again looked at the SID and was again distracted by ground control; noticing the bold 2000 ft and the altitude pre-select set at 2000 ft I failed to see the other bold 1500 ft initial limitation on this SID. After departure runway 24 at teb we climbed to 1500 ft MSL and then turned to 280 degree heading; continuing our climb to 2000 ft within the required fix of 4.5 DME from teb. Our climb should have stopped at 1500 feet until reaching 4.5 DME and then climb to 2000 ft. At no time did we receive a TCAS alert. Our company operates out of teb on a regular basis; and although I used the teb 5 SID chart and looked at it; I did not study it. In the future I will review the appropriate procedure after receiving our clearance and before passenger arrival with my flying partner to avoid distractions. This preparation will be completed before departing the ramp for taxi and again prior to departure. The altitude pre-select will be set to some other altitude other than 2000 ft when established on final at teb airport. To avoid confusion and similarities of the two departures at teb; ie; runway 1; 6; and 24; it would be less confusing if the departure altitudes were 100 ft different than the other runway. Ie runway 1 and 6 climb to 1900 ft or 2100 ft.

Title: A CE560 PLT ON A DEP FROM TEB LEFT 2000 FT SET IN THE ALT ALERTER FROM HIS PREVIOUS FLT SO THE CREW VIOLATED THE 1500 FT DEP ALT RESTR.

Narrative: ON 04/FRI/05 I FLEW THE LEG FROM ELZ TO TEB. WHEN ESTABLISHED ON FINAL FOR RUNWAY 24 AT TEB THE ALT SELECT WAS SCROLLED FROM 1500 FT TO 2000 FT PER COMPANY PRACTICE TO SILENCE ALT DEVIATION CHIME. THE FOLLOWING LEG FROM TEB TO PSM WAS FLOWN BY ANOTHER PLT AND I MOVED FROM PF IN L SEAT TO PNF IN THE R SEAT. IT WAS MY JOB TO PREPARE THE AIRPLANE FOR DEP. WHILE WAITING FOR OUR CLRNC I GLANCED AT THE TEB 5 DEP AND NOTICED IN BOLD PRINT 2000 FT. OUR CLRNC CAME BACK WHILE I WAS LOOKING AT THIS SID. I COPIED THE CLRNC AND FAILED TO GO BACK AND STUDY THE SID AS I HAD INTENDED TO. WHILE TAXIING TO RWY 24 I AGAIN LOOKED AT THE SID AND WAS AGAIN DISTRACTED BY GND CTL; NOTICING THE BOLD 2000 FT AND THE ALT PRE-SELECT SET AT 2000 FT I FAILED TO SEE THE OTHER BOLD 1500 FT INITIAL LIMITATION ON THIS SID. AFTER DEP RWY 24 AT TEB WE CLIMBED TO 1500 FT MSL AND THEN TURNED TO 280 DEG HDG; CONTINUING OUR CLB TO 2000 FT WITHIN THE REQUIRED FIX OF 4.5 DME FROM TEB. OUR CLB SHOULD HAVE STOPPED AT 1500 FEET UNTIL REACHING 4.5 DME AND THEN CLB TO 2000 FT. AT NO TIME DID WE RECEIVE A TCAS ALERT. OUR COMPANY OPERATES OUT OF TEB ON A REGULAR BASIS; AND ALTHOUGH I USED THE TEB 5 SID CHART AND LOOKED AT IT; I DID NOT STUDY IT. IN THE FUTURE I WILL REVIEW THE APPROPRIATE PROC AFTER RECEIVING OUR CLRNC AND BEFORE PAX ARR WITH MY FLYING PARTNER TO AVOID DISTRACTIONS. THIS PREPARATION WILL BE COMPLETED BEFORE DEPARTING THE RAMP FOR TAXI AND AGAIN PRIOR TO DEP. THE ALT PRE-SELECT WILL BE SET TO SOME OTHER ALT OTHER THAN 2000 FT WHEN ESTABLISHED ON FINAL AT TEB ARPT. TO AVOID CONFUSION AND SIMILARITIES OF THE TWO DEPS AT TEB; IE; RWY 1; 6; AND 24; IT WOULD BE LESS CONFUSING IF THE DEP ALTS WERE 100 FT DIFFERENT THAN THE OTHER RWY. IE RWY 1 AND 6 CLB TO 1900 FT OR 2100 FT.
