Narrative:

On nov/fri/04, I was asked to come in for a night of overtime. Upon arriving at work, I was asked if I would like to go to ZZZZ to repair an MD80 #1 engine oil pressure indication problem. The oil pressure indicator was replaced earlier that day in ZZZ, but the problem returned. It was believed to be the oil pressure transmitter that needed replacing. ZZZ line mechanic and I arrived in ZZZZ at approximately XA00 hour, and began work. After replacing the oil pressure transmitter, we found that this did not fix the problem. We contacted ZZZ maintenance control, who contacted technical services representative. They advised that we adjust the oil pressure relief valve. This did fix the problem, and I signed off the log page. We departed ZZZZ and returned to ZZZ. While discussing our field trip with other mechanics in ZZZ, we were told this adjust is an rii item. No mention of this being an rii item was made in our numerous calls to maintenance control or to technical services. And since the original repair (the transmitter) was not rii, we did not consider the adjustment to be an inspection item. The inspection was made later that night in ZZZ.

Title: AN MD80 WORKED OFF LINE FOR REPAIR OF #1 ENG OIL PRESSURE INDICATION. WAS FIXED WHEN THE OIL PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE WAS ADJUSTED. NO FAA RII ACCOMPLISHED.

Narrative: ON NOV/FRI/04, I WAS ASKED TO COME IN FOR A NIGHT OF OVERTIME. UPON ARRIVING AT WORK, I WAS ASKED IF I WOULD LIKE TO GO TO ZZZZ TO REPAIR AN MD80 #1 ENG OIL PRESSURE INDICATION PROB. THE OIL PRESSURE INDICATOR WAS REPLACED EARLIER THAT DAY IN ZZZ, BUT THE PROB RETURNED. IT WAS BELIEVED TO BE THE OIL PRESSURE XMITTER THAT NEEDED REPLACING. ZZZ LINE MECH AND I ARRIVED IN ZZZZ AT APPROX XA00 HR, AND BEGAN WORK. AFTER REPLACING THE OIL PRESSURE XMITTER, WE FOUND THAT THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROB. WE CONTACTED ZZZ MAINT CTL, WHO CONTACTED TECHNICAL SVCS REPRESENTATIVE. THEY ADVISED THAT WE ADJUST THE OIL PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE. THIS DID FIX THE PROB, AND I SIGNED OFF THE LOG PAGE. WE DEPARTED ZZZZ AND RETURNED TO ZZZ. WHILE DISCUSSING OUR FIELD TRIP WITH OTHER MECHS IN ZZZ, WE WERE TOLD THIS ADJUST IS AN RII ITEM. NO MENTION OF THIS BEING AN RII ITEM WAS MADE IN OUR NUMEROUS CALLS TO MAINT CTL OR TO TECHNICAL SVCS. AND SINCE THE ORIGINAL REPAIR (THE XMITTER) WAS NOT RII, WE DID NOT CONSIDER THE ADJUSTMENT TO BE AN INSPECTION ITEM. THE INSPECTION WAS MADE LATER THAT NIGHT IN ZZZ.
