Narrative:

After takeoff from runway 24 at teb on teb 5 departure we proceeded runway heading to 1500 ft. I asked co-pilot if we could continue to 2000 ft. He stated yes, when we reached 1700 to 1800 ft he stated, no, we had to be at 1500 ft. So I proceeded back down to 1500 ft. ATC called and stated we should be at 1500 ft and that we needed to review the departure. At cruise both myself and the co-pilot both reviewed the teb 5 departure procedure and realized we had a miscommunication.
