Narrative:

Aft galley coffeemakers overheated, cabin filled with strong, acrid burning smell. Captain informed of situation at pushback on ground, but waited until 1 hour 30 mins in-flight to take action. We were over slc, but returned to sfo. Maintenance removed the 2 faulty makers and replaced. The circuit breakers had not 'popped.' I really think the captain did not want to believe the severity of the situation, despite our pleas and complaints about the smell, heat, and passenger discomfort.
