Narrative:

On the morning of may/mon/04, I was given the job of completing the right&right outboard PCU on aircraft. As swing shift was about to go home, myself and another mechanic finished the install leak operation check per the maintenance manual at XA30, at which time the close-up of the access panel was left for dayshift. I then signed off the fmr (flight maintenance report) item, not thinking about the rii requirement, which wasn't circled, as I should have. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the maintenance manual procedure for replacement and test of the elevator power unit did not indicate or make note that it was a required inspection item. The reporter said everyone involved with the job, including the lead technician and supervisor, did not remember the requirement. The reporter stated at one time the items were posted on a board in the line office.
