Narrative:

Mumbai approach ignored several of my requests for lower altitude. Finally, they slammed dunked us from 8000 ft to 4000 ft while we were downwind to base. We were about to cross the localizer when the tower gave us a turn to reintercept. That was at the same time that we were to level off at 4000 ft. Speed brake was deployed, power at idle. Captain lost situational awareness and descended 400 ft below assigned altitude. While trying to make the turn to intercept localizer, he banked 45 degrees! The rest was very scary. 1) 'bank angle' was screaming, 2) stick shaker went off, 3) I stowed the speed brake while adding power. He finally rolled out of turn and leveled off. Had to get vectored back for the approach. Controller never apologized.
