Narrative:

I have had 2 occasions when I have inspected a logbook on an aircraft with an inoperative APU prior to departure. The MEL 49-1 procedure for this has been changed and has been superseded by an interim revision. On both occasions, the requirements for the interim revision were not met and the airplanes had flown several legs. The notice of the existence of the interim revision for 49-1 is printed in our flight plans, but the revision itself is not provided in the cockpit. The MEL outdated/superseded page is still in the MEL book and is not marked as being outdated, so it leads both mechanics and pilots astray. The outdated page should either be removed or marked as not current to prevent this from occurring again.

ON BOTH OCCASIONS, THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE INTERIM REVISION WERE NOT MET AND THE AIRPLANES HAD FLOWN SEVERAL LEGS. THE NOTICE OF THE EXISTENCE OF THE INTERIM REVISION FOR 49-1 IS PRINTED IN OUR FLT PLANS, BUT THE REVISION ITSELF IS NOT PROVIDED IN THE COCKPIT. THE MEL OUTDATED/SUPERSEDED PAGE IS STILL IN THE MEL BOOK AND IS NOT MARKED AS BEING OUTDATED, SO IT LEADS BOTH MECHS AND PLTS ASTRAY. THE OUTDATED PAGE SHOULD EITHER BE REMOVED OR MARKED AS NOT CURRENT TO PREVENT THIS FROM OCCURRING AGAIN.
