Narrative:

Departing orl on an IFR flight plan. Understood a clearance from orl clearance delivery to be 'cleared to 15000 ft, heading 250 degrees, expect FL250 in 10 mins.' took off and climbed on heading assigned. Switched from orl tower to orl approach. Approach called back (when we were at 4200 ft) inquiring about our clearance. I believe approach thought our clearance limit was 1500 ft, although we had read back our clearance to clearance delivery. I wonder if abbreviated terminology (one five' instead of 'one five thousand') contributed to the miscom.

Title: IFR AC690 DEP FROM ORL CLBS ABOVE ATC EXPECTED ALT, 15000 FT IN LIEU OF 1500 FT.

Narrative: DEPARTING ORL ON AN IFR FLT PLAN. UNDERSTOOD A CLRNC FROM ORL CLRNC DELIVERY TO BE 'CLRED TO 15000 FT, HDG 250 DEGS, EXPECT FL250 IN 10 MINS.' TOOK OFF AND CLBED ON HDG ASSIGNED. SWITCHED FROM ORL TWR TO ORL APCH. APCH CALLED BACK (WHEN WE WERE AT 4200 FT) INQUIRING ABOUT OUR CLRNC. I BELIEVE APCH THOUGHT OUR CLRNC LIMIT WAS 1500 FT, ALTHOUGH WE HAD READ BACK OUR CLRNC TO CLRNC DELIVERY. I WONDER IF ABBREVIATED TERMINOLOGY (ONE FIVE' INSTEAD OF 'ONE FIVE THOUSAND') CONTRIBUTED TO THE MISCOM.
