Narrative:
I notified maintenance control about an MEL 26-8 I was creating on the morning of oct/wed/03. The controller proceeded to give me a tracking number to finalize the MEL. He also reminded me to pull the 'APU, fire protection detection' circuit breaker, which call for in the book. I idented the breaker but didn't pull the breaker because I didn't have a collar for the breaker. So I radioed a co-worker to give me a collar and met him at the bottom of the jetway stairs. At this time, there was no electrical power applied to the aircraft. As I walk at the door of the flight deck, I drop the collar. I moved the first officer's seat forward to get access to the collar. I picked up the collar and pulled the APU breaker and collar it. That night of oct/wed/03, 3 hours into the shift I got a call from maintenance control. He talked to me about what had happened. I collared the wrong circuit breaker. I collared the 'APU extinguisher bottle' instead of the 'APU protection detection' system, which calls for in the MEL book.

Title: A B737-300 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH THE APU FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE CIRCUIT BREAKER PULLED AND COLLARED IN ERROR.
Narrative: I NOTIFIED MAINT CTL ABOUT AN MEL 26-8 I WAS CREATING ON THE MORNING OF OCT/WED/03. THE CTLR PROCEEDED TO GIVE ME A TRACKING NUMBER TO FINALIZE THE MEL. HE ALSO REMINDED ME TO PULL THE 'APU, FIRE PROTECTION DETECTION' CIRCUIT BREAKER, WHICH CALL FOR IN THE BOOK. I IDENTED THE BREAKER BUT DIDN'T PULL THE BREAKER BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE A COLLAR FOR THE BREAKER. SO I RADIOED A CO-WORKER TO GIVE ME A COLLAR AND MET HIM AT THE BOTTOM OF THE JETWAY STAIRS. AT THIS TIME, THERE WAS NO ELECTRICAL PWR APPLIED TO THE ACFT. AS I WALK AT THE DOOR OF THE FLT DECK, I DROP THE COLLAR. I MOVED THE FO'S SEAT FORWARD TO GET ACCESS TO THE COLLAR. I PICKED UP THE COLLAR AND PULLED THE APU BREAKER AND COLLAR IT. THAT NIGHT OF OCT/WED/03, 3 HRS INTO THE SHIFT I GOT A CALL FROM MAINT CTL. HE TALKED TO ME ABOUT WHAT HAD HAPPENED. I COLLARED THE WRONG CIRCUIT BREAKER. I COLLARED THE 'APU EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE' INSTEAD OF THE 'APU PROTECTION DETECTION' SYS, WHICH CALLS FOR IN THE MEL BOOK.
