Narrative:

Received taxi instructions in phl to proceed (outbound) to spot X and contact ground control. Ground control gave instructions to taxi to runway 27L via taxiway east, and to hold short of runway 27R. Ground also advised that the company B767 ahead would be moving shortly. Since both pilots assumed that the B767 had been given the same taxi instructions to runway 27L, as B767 began to move, our aircraft followed, crossing runway 17/35. At that point, both pilots realized that the B767 was not going to runway 27L, but was being positioned on the east side of the field for a delayed departure. We advised ground that we had missed taxiway east and were now holding short of taxiway D. Ground then issued taxi instructions from that point to runway 27L. Note: upon crossing runway 17/35, captain asked first officer if clearance was all the way to hold short of runway 27L. Both agreed there were no other hold short instructions. Also, no aircraft were taking off or landing on runway 17/35 during runway crossing. A phone call to ground control indicated that runway 17/35 may have been closed at that time.

Title: A319 FLT CREW HAS RWY INCURSION AT PHL.

Narrative: RECEIVED TAXI INSTRUCTIONS IN PHL TO PROCEED (OUTBOUND) TO SPOT X AND CONTACT GND CTL. GND CTL GAVE INSTRUCTIONS TO TAXI TO RWY 27L VIA TXWY E, AND TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 27R. GND ALSO ADVISED THAT THE COMPANY B767 AHEAD WOULD BE MOVING SHORTLY. SINCE BOTH PLTS ASSUMED THAT THE B767 HAD BEEN GIVEN THE SAME TAXI INSTRUCTIONS TO RWY 27L, AS B767 BEGAN TO MOVE, OUR ACFT FOLLOWED, XING RWY 17/35. AT THAT POINT, BOTH PLTS REALIZED THAT THE B767 WAS NOT GOING TO RWY 27L, BUT WAS BEING POSITIONED ON THE E SIDE OF THE FIELD FOR A DELAYED DEP. WE ADVISED GND THAT WE HAD MISSED TXWY E AND WERE NOW HOLDING SHORT OF TXWY D. GND THEN ISSUED TAXI INSTRUCTIONS FROM THAT POINT TO RWY 27L. NOTE: UPON XING RWY 17/35, CAPT ASKED FO IF CLRNC WAS ALL THE WAY TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 27L. BOTH AGREED THERE WERE NO OTHER HOLD SHORT INSTRUCTIONS. ALSO, NO ACFT WERE TAKING OFF OR LNDG ON RWY 17/35 DURING RWY XING. A PHONE CALL TO GND CTL INDICATED THAT RWY 17/35 MAY HAVE BEEN CLOSED AT THAT TIME.
