Narrative:
After 1 leg to ZZZ with no aircraft abnormalities, ZZZ maintenance informed me that the right aileron trim tab was damaged. On the trailing edge of the trim tab, a piece had been cut. It was a rectangular cut about 3/4 inch by 1 1/2 inch. If I had not been told where it was, I don't know if I would have seen it. The first maintenance man to do the walkaround missed it. I have no idea how it was damaged. I believe my first officer must have missed seeing it, just like the first mechanic did. I know my first officer had minimum crew rest because of an event the day before. He is very thorough and has a great attention to detail. The damage looks like it was done by a stand of some kind.
