Narrative:

While approaching us airspace from mexico, by asuta intersection, we were given what we believed was a clearance to descend from FL310 to FL290. The clearance was read back to ATC, but another aircraft with a similar call sign was in the airspace. The clearance was read back and we initiated a descent to FL290. At FL306, ATC asked what we were doing. The captain informed him that we were descending to FL290. He replied 'negative, that was for air carrier Y.' the descent was aborted at FL304 and we climbed back to FL310.
