Narrative:

Descent into myr, we were slam dunked into myr, cleared from 11000 ft to 3000 ft. Controller attempted to clear us for a visual with a scattered to broken layer between us and the airport. ATC called traffic at our 10 O'clock position, then cleared to 1600 ft. We were about 6 NM from airport at about 230 KTS. We were unable to slow down and get down. We went around at about 2 mi from airport to an uneventful landing. Corrective actions: try to slow first to get down, ask ATC for lower altitude sooner. Keep better track of position while being distraction looking for traffic and airport, to get in a position for a stabilized approach.
