Narrative:

Left runway 4R deice pad with clearance to taxi either by K3 or K4 to taxiway Y, to runway 22L. Utilized K4 and failed to make right turn on taxiway Y. Noticed white paint of runway markings for runway 22L, and that I'd crossed the hold lines. We notified detroit ground and they had us taxi down runway 4R to Y8, taxiway Y to runway 22L departure. I had repeated these relatively simple taxi instructions aloud after the first officer acknowledged them. When on K4, ground asked if we had new ATIS, at which time first officer came inside cockpit to get new ATIS via ACARS, thereby taking herself out of the loop. Fortunately I saw all that white paint in time. This was leg 13 of 18, on day 4 of a 5 day trip. Both pilots need to stay continuously in the loop, especially when taxiing with multiple turns.

Title: A DC9 FLT CREW CROSSES ACTIVE RWY HOLD SHORT LINE AT DTW WITHOUT A CLRNC.

Narrative: LEFT RWY 4R DEICE PAD WITH CLRNC TO TAXI EITHER BY K3 OR K4 TO TXWY Y, TO RWY 22L. UTILIZED K4 AND FAILED TO MAKE R TURN ON TXWY Y. NOTICED WHITE PAINT OF RWY MARKINGS FOR RWY 22L, AND THAT I'D CROSSED THE HOLD LINES. WE NOTIFIED DETROIT GND AND THEY HAD US TAXI DOWN RWY 4R TO Y8, TXWY Y TO RWY 22L DEP. I HAD REPEATED THESE RELATIVELY SIMPLE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS ALOUD AFTER THE FO ACKNOWLEDGED THEM. WHEN ON K4, GND ASKED IF WE HAD NEW ATIS, AT WHICH TIME FO CAME INSIDE COCKPIT TO GET NEW ATIS VIA ACARS, THEREBY TAKING HERSELF OUT OF THE LOOP. FORTUNATELY I SAW ALL THAT WHITE PAINT IN TIME. THIS WAS LEG 13 OF 18, ON DAY 4 OF A 5 DAY TRIP. BOTH PLTS NEED TO STAY CONTINUOUSLY IN THE LOOP, ESPECIALLY WHEN TAXIING WITH MULTIPLE TURNS.
