Narrative:

Upon arrival to ZZZ, flight crew told me they had an 'elevator C hydraulic press' problem. I informed my lead, and he said defer the 'center electric 2' pump. I was in a hurry to get the plane released (new mrd). I deferred per MEL 2911C, and did not think to question whether or not that was a valid deferral per the EICAS message. I am responsible for not investigating the problem further. In ZZZ1, mechanic activated C2 pump, ran all 3 hydraulic system, and erased message.
