Narrative:

The aircraft made an early left turn while executing the idale departure after the autoplt was selected 'on' shortly after takeoff. The captain's flight director failed and the first officer's FMS matched the captain's FMS. However, the aircraft did not continue to fly to the first waypoint and turned to the south too early. When the captain's flight director failed, the aircraft should have been flown in heading select until the problem could have been idented.
