Narrative:

I was told, or heard, 'released from runway 8, remain this frequency.' I repeated this back 'understand released from runway 8 remain this frequency.' I took to the runway and began to take off. I was then told to stop. The perception was that I was given takeoff clearance by the controller who was using the ground frequency as the tower frequency as I have experienced in the past. This incident would have been avoided if the controller would have been more specific by saying for example 'released from runway 8, contact tower for takeoff clearance.' it may have been avoided if the controller responded to my readback. It may have been avoided if the tower personnel was/were monitoring visually the active runway.
